The Trees

Updated: Mar 31, 2021

The trees,

The trees,

The trees go marching on!

The trees,

The trees,

The trees go marching on!

To the little house,

With the tiny mouse,

To bring Christmas cheer

To everyone here,

Apples and eyes,

And Christmas pies,

To the little girl,

With the naughty curl!

And presents galore,

To everyone more!

The trees,

The trees,

The trees go marching on!

The trees,

The trees,

The trees go marching on!

Author’s Note

All my life I have loved Christmas Trees. In fact, Tenbrunsel means Christmas Tree. I remember every venture out into the countryside to chop down a tree and drag it home, first by mule drawn sled, then the old grey Ferguson tractor, with us piled in the wagon with our Christmas prize, our eyes already aglow, in the snow, away we’d go, laughing and cutting up, and down. Then later tied atop the car or stuffed in the van, of my very own fam. It has been many years, since we, as family, went to select and cut a tree. This year my little girl is all grown up and with her delightful family of five, invited, Papa, now older, to come along to trek the hillside, with them. In search, once more for THE tree with Papa’s crystal sharp scabbarded Silva saw, indeed saw, selected it and all young hands sawed down the perfect, the perfect, the perfect Christmas tree. My youth, my youth, my youth came back to me🎄
