MOMMA BEAR

So I’m quietly picking blueberries this noon in my garden, when Momma Bear and her three playful yearling baby cubs meander into my yard. Cute little things but make no mistake, don’t feed them or try to pet them while mom’s around. Just observe at a safe distance. Give them leeway. Never come between a momma bear and her cubs!

I made a stealthy retreat and filmed from a safe distance, as momma showed her cubs how to pick my/her apples and blueberries. You see, I’ve been “false-charged” up on Rocky Top once. I know that GO look in a Bear’s face, when you’re in it’s space. Your heart stops. Bear pull up short ten feet from me! Whew! I live amongst the bears in our home in the Appalachians. And I respect birds and animals and share my garden with the local creatures😎.

Today the neighbor’s dog, barking viscously, got between momma bear and her three cubs up in a tree. Momma bear was poised ten feet from her cubs and was not gonna budge in the least at the dogs. I recognized the look one her face. I held my breath. Make no mistake. A momma bear’s attack is sudden, lightening quick and deadly when her cubs are involved. I’ve seen unsuspecting dogs mauled in an instant. That dog was lucky today. My neighbor knew it too (from a safe distance), as she nervously coxed her dogs back by spraying water on them. Lucky for her dogs.

The cubs climbed down backwards, and the foursome disappeared into the woods. All’s well that ends well.
