ANCESTORS

My ancestors are standing in my hospital
room right now tonight
Larger than life
Tall-darkened shadowy
Giants in the Earth
Just milling around
A whole bunch of them
yet only a dozen
What for?
“Wait outside” I say
They pay
Absolutely no attention to me
Slowly they tire and meander away
Not today
Maby another day
But hey
They’re ancestors
Dressed sorta different aren’t they?
Quiet
Unspoken immigrant-like
Heavy long woolen coats
Top hats
A motley bunch preceding me
A Gathered apparition round me
“Giants in the earth”
Perhaps waiting
Watching
Beckoning
“Not today.
Not today I say.”
They slowly
Mill away
One smiled and winks
“Soon my friend
Soon!”
And I sleep.
