Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Lenore Kabish Jones
There’s something heartwarming
Peacefully secure
Bout having plenty of cured
Neatly stacked wood,
A Rick, a Chord or two
Ready or just pretty
Too warm you twice
Perhaps thrice
As you rack and stack
The flue

Author’s Note:
Stack neat a chord
4x8x4+2
On the sunny side
No need to cover
Let sun/weather
Dry cure it for you
Take pride in your tree gift
keep the stack squared away
Neatly stacked and true
Evenly
Don’t let your neighbor
Think you’re sloppy, slovenly or rude
Take pride in knowing how to display
Carefor the gift the tree gave to you
Uncle Lenny’s Axe Folly
I recall quite vividly when we were putting up firewood for winter to cook and warm us We’re out in the woods selectively selecting trees
To block, chop
gathering loading wood
Uncle Lenny was a chopping full axe swings with that old worn out axe of his
Suddenly yells out the dreaded call,” AIRBORNE!!! AIRBORNE AXE!!!
We all scattered hoping
Praying it landed free
Not in me
The axe head had slipped off the axe handle full swing
Flew up some 20 feet, thank God it hit no one Landed, sunk straight-in the ground at Johnny’s feet !
Just another day of chopping
Loading the old farm truck spring deep
Toting it home
stacking it neatly in a rick and chord heap
