MOTHER’S GAME

My mother loved finding coins

Be they nickels dimes or quarter

A penny would do

Oh my! A Kennedy half dollar!!!

What joy

Just a small boy

Being with his mamma on the street

Her tickled pink

At her discovery.

A pocket full

Pick a lucky peck or so too

Author’s Note: So as time passed and my mom and dad, older, me married with kids, when they came to visit me the coin-joy continued. Anticipating their visit to this day, I would spread coins on the driveway. Mom long passed now, I continue the habit of emptying my pocket change on the driveway in hopes of bringing joy to passersby and visitors. There is an inherent joy to finding a coin, albeit I rarely bend down for a penny or a nickel A ha-penny for sure. Joy is youth and youth never fades, finding stuff.

Make someone’s day. Toss a coin or two.
