The homework assignment was to read the poetry of Carl Sandburg and look for the proofs that he demonstrates in his works. And when you find one, email me the poem title, stanza where he proves something. What does he prove in this example from his poem “Silver Star”:
“Star Silver” 4th stanza, last two lines
“The vagabond Mother of Christ
And the vagabond men of wisdom,
All in a barn on a winter night,
And a baby there in swaddling clothes on hay —
Why does the story never wear out?”
Sandburg received three Pulitzer Prizes for his poetry. He never rhymed a poem! He said if it works, it works! Unbelievable genius.
