By popular request, I have been asked to launch a monthly Self Help Series, along with my regular poetry and blogs. I’ll shoot for the first week of each month.

The Series is not treatment, not psychotherapy, but rather is intended as a teaching guide to give insight into the mental aspects of life, to inspect the cause and effect of psychological problems and what one might expect in seeking psychological treatment. Look to the Self Help Series as a means of better understanding of psychological issues and what one might expect out of therapy. If in need consult a psychologist first.

Sample Self Help Series topics:

What is Psychology and When Do You Need it?

How to Select a Therapist,

What is Anxiety Anyway,

Treating Depression,

Solving Panic Attacks (TARE Technique)

Understanding the Stress Response.

The Relaxation Response,

ADHD misconceptions and solutions,

Obsessive Compulsive Disorders,

Dealing with the Oppositional Child,

Parents You Have to be Present to Win,

Good Grief,

Laughter is the Best Medicine,

How to Succeed in Sports,

Fixing Relationships,

What Causes Migraines

So You Have Cancer,

NewWeigh®️ Weight Loss Checklist. SERTN - Exercise, Nutrition, Relaxation, Positive Thinking, Spiritual

The History of Clinical Psychology,

There are over 100 therapies and only the top ten work

*This is not treatment, only information and insight into the field of psychology. Consult your local clinical psychologist for treatment.

The Self Help Series is not proposed as treatment, but rather insight into what to expect when seeking treatment from a psychologist. I respond only to general ideas on a topic. I do not respond to personal issues or emergencies. Seek professional help as needed. If you are having an emergency, contact your primary care physician.

The Father of Modern Psychotherapy was Dr. Albert Ellis. Psychotherapytoday is referred to as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Most psychotherapy is brief, lasting no more than 3 to five sessions over one to three months. If your therapy lasts longer, find another therapist. If your therapist cannot articulate a plan with a timeline, find some one else. Should you need follow up care, seek out a good cognitive behavioral psychologist. Your primary care physician can be helpful in referring; also check out choices in Psychology Today psychologytoday.com or The National Register of Psychologists https://www.findapsychologist.org/

Now retired, I spent fifty years in studying and in clinical psychological practice and sports psychology. Over the years I developed “one pagers” for handouts for my clients. Over the next few months, I will share them with you. Some of the topics will be: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, ADHD, relationships, cancer, parenting, how to succeed in college, weight loss, laughter, sports psychology. Treatment begins with the individual. These articles in my self help series are merely suggestions, to get you on your way. Seek a professional as needed.

I hope to hear feedback on this Series as we proceed. Let me hear your thoughts on whether this Series is helpful. And, YES, do put in your requests for topics to be covered, after surveying the posted topic list above.

PLEASE NOTE: Whether I run this Self Help Series will depend on how many LIKES❤️ I get to this introductory post. Otherwise, I will assume there is no interest. Sixty (❤️s) is the cut off, so click the heart icon.

I am also thinking of having Zoom Meetings after each Self Help post. Let me know if you are interested in the COMMENTS section, not by my private gmail.

*Remember to sign up/subscribe with your name. Although anonymous visitors are welcome, I only respond to subscribed SIGNED-IN members. Thanks!
