*Elaine Smith (6/25/37 - 7-23-2024)
Where did the time go
Like a FLASH
Yet memory filled
Elaine,
The glue of this clan
Started it all, raised us
Enjoyed,
Then it was time to go.
Woman, wife, mother, grandmother,
We shall miss you dearly
Yet your spirit remains ingrained
In the core existence
Of every one of us.
Grief albeit tough
Is inevitable
A part of passage
Love remains forever
So fly away our little butterfly
We shall cry tears of sadness
Tears of Joy
Tears of remembering
Tears flowing from our
Love for you
In our quiet hours.
You taught us well
Our blessed time
Spent with your passing
We hold dear to our heart.
Oh to hold your hand once more!
One more lesson
You taught us,
How to die
The glue of this clan
Yes
You touched every one of us personally
Your heart in ours
We proceed from now
Knowing it’s what you would want.
You taught us well
Now when the bell knells
Know we are blessed
With your presence
Forever
Together
All of us
Glued by you,
We shall miss you.
God speed, Elaine.

A Carl Sandburg Writer
Author’s Note: A poem, my gift to the family. Although I knew Elaine Mary (Bransfield) Smith only briefly at a far, as a close-by neighbor, I was touched by her brilliant kindness. A beautiful gentle, tough lady yet filled with kindness, definitely the leader of her large family, certainly the glue of her clan. She loved unconditionally and taught her children well. Her family shall miss her the most, but she likewise left a void in the hearts of friends and neighbors, an empty place in my heart. When I think of Elaine, I think of kindness.
